Since his loss to Dillian Whyte, Parker has won each of his last three fights in his bid to regain a piece of the heavyweight championship. His quest continues February 27th when he faces undefeated fighter Junior Fa.

Briefly, that’s an overview of who is currently the best in boxing at each weight class. What implications does that have for the future? Accordingly, these ESPN boxing rankings show the top ten fighters in each weight class.

Though, when it comes to weight classes in boxing, heavyweight boxers grab the most attention, thanks to icons like Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, and Mike Tyson. However, each division leaves room for fighters of any boxing weight class to step up and make their mark.

The featherweight division originated in the 1860s under the London Prize Ring Rules, with a set weight limit of 118 lbs. However, the English ABA established the weight at 126 lbs, followed by a few more changes until the NSC officially modified it back in America to 126 lbs. The first featherweight champ in the world is considered Irishman Ike Weir, who defeated Frank Murphy on January 13th, 1890.

You find all current and planned IBJJF events on their events page.

Even if you’re the only person in your weight class and will win by default you might still need to weigh in. In IBJJF rules for example you’ll not only need to weigh in but also pass the normal uniform test to be eligible for your medal.

Flyweight is a boxing weight class designed for fighters who have a comparatively smaller physique and lower weight. This category caters to boxers who weigh 112 pounds (51 kg) or less. A flyweight bout exhibits the tactical prowess, speed, and agility of these fighters, who rely on their quick reflexes and high stamina to overcome their adversaries. Keep in mind that flyweight may not showcase the knockout power typically associated with higher weight classes. Famous flyweight fighters include Pancho Villa, Jimmy Wilde, and more recently, Daigo Higa and Kazuto Ioka.

Hayabusa Pro Boxing Shoes are specially designed for ring matchups to support precise footwork and mobility. They’re lightweight, durable, and deemed by fighters as the best boxing shoes for competition.

Within the U.K, however, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has diligently overseen British professional boxing since 1929.Instead, there are four worldwide sanctioning bodies who organise the fights:

Usually happening the day before the fight, official weigh-ins are public events where fighters must meet their division's weight limit. Falling outside the specified range can lead to fines, disqualification from the bout, or the fight proceeding as a non-title match if only one competitor is overweight.

Crawford, 35, has won titles at super lightweight and lightweight in addition to welterweight, capturing the latter after moving up in 2018. The Omaha, Nebraska, fighter became the first male boxer to become the undisputed champion in two divisions in the four-belt era.

Light heavyweight has seen a number of amazing boxers, including Evander Holyfield, Bernard Hopkins, Bob Foster, Ann Wolfe, Roy Jones Jr., and Artur Beterbiev, who currently holds the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles. Beterbiev has a perfect 19-0 record with an astonishing 19 KOs.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) was founded in 1921 as the National Boxing Association (NBA), a national regulating body of the United States. On August 23, 1962, the NBA became the WBA, which today has its head office in Panama. According to WBA championship rules, when a champion also holds a title of one of the other three major sanctioning bodies in an equivalent weight division, that boxer is granted a special recognition of "Unified Champion", and is given more time between mandatory title defenses. The WBA Championships Committee and President may also designate a champion as a "Super Champion" or "Undisputed Champion" in exceptional circumstances; the standard WBA title is then vacated and contested between WBA-ranked contenders. When a WBA "Regular Champion" makes between five and ten successful defenses, he may be granted the WBA "Super" title upon discretion of a vote of the WBA's board of governors.

The fight was expected to be the largest-grossing bout in history, with total revenues projected to reach $300 million, and experts predicted it would sell between 2.5 million and 3 million pay-per-views in the U.S.

I once ruled this division. It combines strength, length, height and girthy bodies. However, stylistically, you get a little of everything here: speed, power and mental toughness. Josh Taylor oversees this division, as he is the former undisputed champion. Taylor won all four belts in a unification fight against Jose Ramirez in 2021, but the WBC and WBA stripped Taylor of the belts after Taylor decided to go for a rematch against Jack Catterall after a controversial decision win, instead of fighting his mandatory challengers. He is tall, athletic and highly competitive, but what happens when new blood enters the domain? The division quickly becomes more vibrant and alive. Rising star Teofimo Lopez Jr., known as the "Takeover," has shifted his energy from 135 pounds to 140, and also joining the circuit is the young and talented Ryan "Kingry" Garcia, followed by a plethora of hungry top contenders awaiting their turn at a title shot. The 140-pound division could be the subsequent welterweight division. So it comes in at No. 5.
