World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and can be found on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.
Using the item level will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.
The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stat mods on an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes could do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
item upgrading Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an
upgrade item will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the
Item Upgrader CORE client config.
