If you are a coffee enthusiast, you should go to a coffee shop. These shops provide a variety of whole beans from all over the world. They also sell unique kitchenware and trinkets.

As you enter this quaint West Village shop, the smell of fresh roasted beans fills your nose. The sacks of dark brown beans line the shelves alongside jars of sugar, coffee-making equipment as well as tea accessories.

Porto Rico, originally opened in 1907 by Italian immigrants Patsy Albonese. Greenwich Village at the time was witnessing a surge of Italian immigrants, who set up businesses in order to meet their food requirements. He continues to run the shop in the same way to his father and grandfather.

Sey Coffee

Sey Coffee, a coffee shop and roaster is located along Grattan Street, in Morgantown. The neighborhood, which is part of Brooklyn's Bushwick district is situated on Grattan Street. Tobin Polk, Lance Schnorenberg and their 33-year-old co-founders started roasting coffee in the loft on the fourth floor just around the corner in the year 2011. They dubbed it Lofted Coffee. Local clients included Greenpoint's Budin, and Soho cart services Peddler and Peddler.

Sey's commitment to buying micro-lots, or even entire harvests from single farmers has earned it the respect of New York City coffee enthusiasts. Last year, Sey purchased a six-bag micro lot of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai from Brazil's Espirito Santa region. The beans were carefully picked at peak ripeness, removed by flotation to eliminate defects and then dried fermented for 36 hours prior to being dried on the farm. The result is a coffee that has hints of fruit and melon.

Sey's commitment extends beyond its shop to improve the overall health of staff and farmers, and customers. It makes use of composts and biodegradable disposables in order to ensure that waste is kept out of landfills. This helps to reduce greenhouse gases and helps nourish the soil. It also removes gratuities. This lets baristas concentrate on their craft and support their livelihoods.

La Cabra

La Cabra, a modern specialty coffee brand, was founded in Aarhus in Denmark in 2012. It began with a tiny shop and a committed team. Their open and creative approach to delivering an extraordinary coffee experience earned them a following that was not only in their home town, but globally.

In a recent interview with Atlanta Coffee Shops General Manager Ian Walla revealed that La Cabra serves 250 different coffees every day and typically has seven or eight varieties on offer at any given moment.

The Roasting Plant is the only multi-unit speciality coffee beans retailer that roasts its own strong coffee beans and brews to order, with each cup of coffee roasted and brewed to your specifications in less than minutes. Their onsite roaster uses fluid bed technology which is a bit different to the drum-type machines that are commonly used in most UK coffee shops. The beans are blown around a heated container by high-speed air, which keeps the green beans suspended and allows roasting to happen at a consistent rate as they travel through the machine.

I tried the Sumatran coffee and it was a rich cup with smooth mouthfeel, dark chocolate from the fragrance was present and the coffee started to cool as you sipped delicate citrus flavours fruit were detected.

The coffee that has been roasted is transported to the Eversys super-automatic brewing machines and you can have your coffee bean coffee brewed to your specifications in less than a minute. Customers can choose from nine single origins and various blends.

It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip.
