Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.
Unless you have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a
private adhd medication titration prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual checks are also required.

Usually the appointment will take place via a zoom video call however in some instances it might be possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

We also suggest to check if your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the prescription for medication.
Medication
For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. Finding a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.
Inquiring your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means you can select an organization that offers an assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a busy schedule.
Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you're required to be titrated on medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that vary by provider but the main ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are factors that could mean you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.
If you are on a titration medication, it will typically include a mix of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. These will be carefully assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration process may be long and could require several additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.
Depending on the kind of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician making sure that you are stable on the medication, logging any side effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You will also be required to undergo a regular health check, which could include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight as well as an annual review.
For some it could be that they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. If you need to discuss your titration or treatment plan in more detail, it is possible that you will be referred to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. If this happens, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee and they will receive their medication on a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). It could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
